Fly, butterfly, fly, but slowly fly;
Being drunk with astral dreams,
If you try, and fly high, sky high,
Wings will break, and you’ll die.
Fly, butterfly, fly, but not so high,
But low and slow, so you may know,
The stars you see are not so nigh,
yet if you try and fly high, you’ll die.

Some poetry is so beautifully tender I am lost for words to do it justice. This is one of those times. 😊

Beautiful! Love the multiple rhymes and the flow of this poem. Another great piece for an open mic. The image of the butterfly with the warning of not flying too high reminds me of the Greek myth about Icarus’s wings. I also wrote a butterfly poem called “Afloat”, which is partly inspired on this myth and on a dream I had: https://momentsbloc.wordpress.com/?s=Afloat

As always, Marta, a comment by you would be what any poet plant on WordPress may expect. It like a rain for any such plant. Also, your poem: Afloat, with its ‘butterfly’ dance is a great one, indeed!! 🙂

The butterfly’s flight is a great metaphor for the pursuit of our dreams. It can be difficult to achieve what we most desire. When our dreams are unrealistic or ill-timed, flying too high can be painful — even fatal. Who though is to say what is unrealistic? There’s the rub.

Your great comment shows the real beauty of critiquing somebody else’s work. Though I didn’t want to convey such a deep message, your comment suggests to me that it’s there. Thank you, Anna, for this wonderfully great comment!! 🙂

Poetry, I think, holds up a mirror both to the poet and the reader.

Now that looked fast. I hope the butterfly didn’t get a speeding ticket 🙂
