Come ye, empty pots, stand in a fine line;
Here, I’m awaiting to smother your mind;
Oh, Master, I know master, no emotions,
No poetry, but facts, with less reasons.
Oh, Master, I know master, no emotions;
Just 2%, I’ll smother them with devotion;
Criticality and creativity are false notions;
So, illiteracy shall shine in full promotion.
No poetry, in this class, for any reason;
Oh, Master, I know master, no emotions;
Come ye, empty pots, this is not a treason;
I’ll smother thy mind for future promotions.

Oy. I gave you a “like” but this concept makes me sad…

Thank you so much for this comment and great suggestion. I know it’s sad, yet in my context, it’s a reality. Once, literature and history were excluded from our curriculum. We were taught somebody else’s history. The purpose of teaching somebody else’s history and total exclusion of literature was a part of neoliberal/neocolonial treason. I am ironic in this presentation. 🙂 🙂

Great post, Newton! I like your thought provoking poem. We need to fight for humanities in the curricula. Today members of the health and education communities have striked in Barcelona against the cuttings and the lack of budget. Let’s fight the neoliberal treason. I refuse to be an empty pot and to turn my students into such.

Your idea of humanizing the curricula is a great idea; and sure, let’s fight together in poetic means even in the classroom. Thank you, as always, for your motivation and great comment!!

Young minds are so vulnerable, so defenseless. Yet our children are bombarded by every sort of lie and diversion. They hear commercial jingles round the clock; are taught to imitate the trendy, and envy the rich and famous. All the while, they wander farther and farther from the truth.

We pay our sports figures millions, and our teachers a pittance.
